I absolutely love the USA G&L LB-100 and its stock USA G&L P-Bass pickup, but I wanted to do a comparison video and demo the stock G&L LB-100 pickup and the Nordstrand Power Blade 4 pickup, one of my favorite P-Bass replacement pickups out there.
The difference in Gain and Volume are definitely apparent and I didn’t even them out on purpose, I wanted to show the difference in volume between the pickups. Both pickups sound amazing, I’ve been playing the LB-100 stock for a while now and I just boost the gain on my amp or recording unit accordingly, I’ve never had any issues with it and it sounds stellar on recordings. The Nordstrand Power Blade 4 is a killer pickup too, very aggressive and big sounding, it seems to have more body in the mids.
To me if you want to go completely traditional, the stock G&L pickup nails a true vintage style P pickup, if you want a little more growl and a modern take on a P pickup then the Nordstrand Power Blade 4 is the way to go.
Hope you guys like the comparison video.
For this recording I used:
USA G&L LB-100, Ash body, Maple neck and fretboard;
DR Lo Rider Strings;
Stock G&L LB-100 Pickup;
Nordstrand Power Blade 4 Pickup;
Universal Audio 1176 (Comp Bypassed);
Logic Audio-tracks bounced with the L2 limiter on the master bus, using only a slight bit of limiting, no EQ or any effects on the bass tracks.
